Donald Trump believes women who have abortions should be punished if the procedure was outlawed, NBC News reported.
Trump struggled to define what that punishment would be during an exclusive interview with MSNBC’s Chris Matthews. When pressed for what should happen to women who might break a theoretical ban on abortions, Trump said the “answer is that there has to be some form of punishment, yeah.”
The GOP front-runner, who has described himself as “pro-life,” also said he didn’t think a man should bear responsibility for abortions.
Even though he said an outright ban on abortions may lead to “a position like they had where people will, perhaps, go to illegal places,” Trump maintained “you have to ban it.”
