Coast Guard officials are still searching for a Florida man and his three kids who still have not returned to shore or been heard from since departing Sunday.
According to Fort Myers NBC affiliate WBBH-TV, the man and his children, ranging in age from 13 to 17, left Sarasota around 7 AM Sunday morning en route to Fort Myers to repair the 29 foot sailboat they were on.
That afternoon, the man called a family member saying the boat was dealing with seas as high as six feet as they were attempting to survive offshore near Englewood. Family members didn’t notify the Coast Guard until Tuesday.
The Coast Guard activated their Maritime Emergency Response Team out of Fort Myers and is asking anyone who goes into the waters of the Gulf of Mexico to keep a lookout and contact Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg at (727) 824-7506 with any information.
